105AH Allied Lithium Battery | Golf Cart Lithium Battery | Allied Lithium Batteries

We recently published a blog all about our now available 30AH Allied lithium batteries, which need a minimum of two for 60AH and can have a maximum of 6 for 180AH. As well as the 30AH Allied lithium batteries, we’ve recently begun stocking the new, high-tech, high BMS, high-quality 105AH Allied lithium battery. This battery outperforms most other lithium batteries as it has high discharge capability: 180AH continuous, 350AH peak, and 600AH peak instantaneous, which is much higher than most other batteries. The 105AH Allied lithium battery is also backed by an 8 year manufacturer’s warranty from the long established, American company.

About the 105AH Allied Lithium Battery

Unlike the 30AH Allied lithium batteries, only one of the 105AH Allied lithium battery is needed for the golf cart. When removing a system of lead-acid batteries – often 6 to 8 70-pound batteries – and replacing them with a single, 108 pound Allied battery, between approximately 300 and 400 pounds of weight is removed from the golf cart, greatly improving performance. The Allied battery is also easy to install, and is referred to as “drop-in ready”.

The battery is great for long-term storage, as it has its own storage mode. To store correctly: fully charge the battery, unplug charger, flip the golf cart switch to tow mode, and press the power button on the side of the Allied battery. This puts it into storage mode – great for snowbirds leaving their carts in storage. The 105AH Allied battery also works with upgraded motors and controllers. From fleet to performance, Allied has the right battery to run your golf cart or ATV vehicle perfectly.

What is a high BMS?

A battery management system (BMS) is an electronic regulator that controls and maintains the status of the battery, such as by providing battery protection, estimating the battery’s operational status, optimizing performance, and reporting the operational status to external devices, such as the Allied app described below. Our BMS is integrated in each battery and will detect any problems with the performance of the battery and shut down any cells not functioning properly. The BMS will also protect from over-charging or undercharging of the batteries. FedEx and UPS have approved our product for air and ground shipping.

Bluetooth Enabled

The Allied “commercial” line has a Bluetooth enabled BMS that communicates directly with the Allied app. Available for Apple and Android phones, it will automatically setup with the battery. Download the free Allied battery app to manage the heath, history and current status of your battery.

105 Allied Lithium Battery Charger

Included with the battery is a charger, state of charge meter, and voltage reducer. The charger plug is the EZGO 48V 3-pin triangular plug. The Allied 15A charger uses OEM plug and will use the existing port just as before. A full 48V setup will charge in 2 to 4 hours versus lead-acid batteries that require 8 to 10 hours. Opportunity charging is also an option – this means the lithium battery can be topped off at any time without harming the batteries, just like charging a cell phone. Lead-acid batteries do not have this feature – attempting to top off lead-acid batteries may damage and reduce the lifespan.

In order to maximize the life of the lithium battery, we require the Allied lithium battery charger. Allied lithium chargers come with OEM plugs, charge the batteries quickly, and turn off when charging is complete. Allied’s rugged BMS is installed in every golf and marine battery. Our state of the art battery management system protects the batteries from under voltage, over voltage, and will shut the battery down if a cell is out of balance. LifePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) is the safest battery chemistry available, and is non-combustible and non-flammable.

The myriad benefits of switching a golf cart from a lead-acid battery system to a lithium have been a high point of interest for us, and we are constantly working to ensure that the batteries you receive are exactly the batteries you need for your golf cart needs. To learn more about why switching to a lithium battery is more eco-friendly, safer, and more cost-effective in the long run, check out our blog on the benefits of lithium batteries. For more about the lithium battery brands we stock, visit our main website‘s page on our lithium golf cart batteries.

Allied Lithium Batteries | Golf Cart Battery Lithium | 48V Lithium Battery

On a previous blog, Port Salerno Golf Cart gives several examples as to how switching to a lithium golf cart battery could provide several benefits for the golf cart, including a much longer driving range, less weight for the cart, many more battery charging cycles, zero harmful emissions, a much faster charging time, and up to 10 years of life. These are our Roy Pow lithium batteries, available as 56AH, 105AH, and 160AH. We’re pleased to announce that along with our Roy Pow lithium batteries, we now have 48V Allied lithium batteries available for sale.

Allied lithium batteries, 30AH each, are different from Roy Pow in that a minimum of two are required, for 60AH. This will give a cart a range of approximately 30-40 miles per charge, and each additional battery will add 15-20 miles of range. For example, 3 x 48V 30AH (90AH total) batteries will have a range of 45-60 miles per charge. Up to 6 can be installed. They are the same size as your current lead-acid batteries which allow you to convert your vehicle from lead-acid to lithium in less than 30 minutes – simply remove the lead-acid batteries and replace with the Allied lithium batteries, attach cables in parallel, secure holding bracket, and the install is complete! They are approximately 1/4th the weight of lead-acid batteries, reducing the overall weight of your cart by 300lbs. This sizable reduction of weight has benefits for all aspects of your cart, including tires, brakes and suspension parts.

• Mileages are based on stock fleet carts. Adjust for non-stock items: upgraded motors / controllers, AC units, older carts, etc.

• 2 x 48V 30AH batteries are required to run the cart efficiently.

• For carts with upgraded motors or controllers, 3 x 48V 30AH (90AH total) batteries (or more) are required.

• In order to maximize the life of the lithium battery, we require the use of the Allied charger.

• Includes OEM plugs, charge the batteries quickly and turn off when charging is complete.

• Additional batteries can be added to the cart up to 2 years after installing the first two or more! Great for users who want additional run-time after initial install.

Allied 15amp charger uses the cart’s OEM plug and will use the existing port just as before. A full 48V setup will charge in 3-5 hours versus lead acid batteries that require 10-12 hours. They also use opportunity charging, meaning you can top off your lithium batteries any time you want without harming the batteries (just like your cell phone). You cannot do this with lead-acid without damaging and reducing the life of the batteries.

In order to maximize the life of the lithium battery, we require the Allied lithium battery charger. Allied lithium chargers come with OEM plugs, charge the batteries quickly, and turn off when charging is complete. IMPORTANT: Chargers are sold separately.

Included with every set of batteries is also our state of charge (SOC) meter, with an LCD screen that provides you an accurate percentage reading.

Allied lithium batteries are zero maintenance!

No watering, no acid, and no corrosion, meaning there is no need for rubber gloves and safety glasses when handling our batteries.

Tested and Safe

Allied Battery has over 30 years of experience in lithium and safety. LifePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) is one of the safest battery chemistry available.

Our BMS (battery management system) in each battery will detect any problems with the performance of the battery and shut down any cells not functioning properly. The BMS will also protect the batteries from any over-charging or under charging of the batteries.

FedEx and UPS have approved our product for air and ground shipping.

Allied lithium batteries are great for long term storage

For vehicles left in storage either for long winters, or snow birds leaving their cart for months, lithium batteries only lose 3-5% of charge per month. Lead-acid batteries will lose up to 33% of charge per month when not on the charger.

8 Year Warranty

Allied lithium batteries have a 8 year warranty to guarantee you will receive the full value of your investment.

Lead-acid batteries will last just 3-5 years based on how well you maintain the batteries, while lithium batteries under normal use will provide you over 10 years of maintenance free service!

We have various new and used golf carts available for sale; to view the used golf carts we have available, visit our used carts page on our main website, updated frequently with new arrivals added and sold carts taken off!

Below are just a few of the many golf cart brands we have available for sale and/or rental.

Golf Cart Brands

EZGO, Club Car, Yamaha Golf Cart Brands

golf cart brands, ezgo club car yamaha golf cart, evolution golf cartThese are easily the most common golf carts, and you’ve likely seen one or more either on a golf course, being used for security in a plaza parking lot, transporting passengers around a job or event site, and many other uses. They are not readily made to be street legal, so you’ll often use them for event transportation or campsites. However, they can be upgraded with the safety features required to become street legal, but they do not come standard with these.

golf cart brands, ezgo club car yamaha golf cart, evolution golf cartBecause they are so common, they are also incredibly easy to find parts for – we have a variety of accessories and replacement parts available for all these carts at our parts website, Prime Cart Parts, where you can find not only parts specific to these carts, but universal accessories that can be installed on these carts and many others.

Evolution

Evolution golf carts are currently the best golf carts in the industry, new models coming from the factory with several accessories already installed as a standard – this includes custom wheels with color-matched 14 inch rims, two-tone seats, a backup camera connected to a 9-inch LED display screen – this screen also connects you to the radio and Bluetooth options, where you can connect your phone and talk hands-free as well as play music from your phone -, and a lithium battery with a range of about 40-50 miles on a single charge and the capability of fully recharging in approximately 5 hours! With an Evolution, you won’t need a lithium battery upgrade, but for other carts that you’re thinking about converting to lithium, check out the lithium batteries that we sell – Roy Pow brand, leading in the industry -, including how you can purchase one of your own and have it shipped right to you.

Advanced EV

golf cart brands, ezgo club car yamaha golf cart, evolution golf cartOur Advanced EV carts make up a large part of both our rentals and sales fleet, many of our street legal golf cart rental carts being Advanced EV carts. We offer various golf cart accessories for Advanced EV carts as well, including but not limited to: custom two-tone seats available in a variety of colors, many colors of custom steering wheels, locking dashes that are installed to create a locking compartment in the dash, black, white, and tan enclosures, a front or inner dash basket, and side nerf bars for 4 or 6 passenger carts. To see our Advanced EV accessories, along with our various other golf cart brands accessories, visit our accessories board on Pinterest.

golf cart brands, ezgo club car yamaha golf cart, evolution golf cartThe Advanced EV comes in a variety of colors, and comes with the standard features of: headlights, tail lights and brake lights, turn signals, horn, speedometer, odometer, state-of-charge meter, dual USB outlets, side-mounted rear view mirrors, heavy duty rust-resistant convertible rear seat/cargo platform with grab bar and foot rest, and 3 point retractable seat belts and grab handles for all passengers. A tinted folding windshield is also available. Many of the features listed above are required for a golf cart to be registered as an LSV, so with its multiple safety features and maximum speed of 24mph, the Advanced EV is ready to become registered as a street legal vehicle.

Bintelli Beyond and Bintelli Nemesis

We have both the Bintelli Beyond and Bintelli Nemesis golf carts, both incredibly high quality carts with custom two-tone seats as the standard. As low speed vehicles (LSVs), Bintelli carts come with a 17-digit VIN number, licensing them for street use on any public roads with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less. Their multiple accessories like head lights and tail lights, seat belts, and windshield wipers make them able to be used on streets just like a regular car. Their maximum forward speed is approximately 20-25 mph, and depending on the type of cart and battery, their running distance can reach between 30-40 miles, with the option of upgrading to a longer range battery for an additional fee. Each Bintelli electric vehicle is built, fully inspected, and shipped from the home facility of Charleston, South Carolina, where a highly trained team of American workers puts every cart through strict quality checks and control. Bintelli carts are assembled from electrical parts purchased from all-American, industry leading name-brand suppliers, and offers many varieties of electric vehicles to ensure that there truly is a cart for every driver.

Kodiak

golf cart brands, ezgo club car yamaha golf cart, evolution golf cartThe Kodiak golf cart is unique for its folding back foot rest that can save about 2 feet of space, and the largest golf car cabin in its class! The extra space and legroom makes the Kodiak ideal for drivers and passengers who are tall. Available as 4 and 6 passenger models, either lifted or nonlifted, the Kodiak can reach a maximum speed of 25mph, and comes with all features necessary for street legal registration – turn signals, headlights and tail lights, brake lights, a horn, and side view mirrors. Kodiak carts are not yet registered until the buyer decides, making them street ready rather than immediately street legal. All Kodiak carts have custom three-tone seats, a thick tinted folding windshield, hydraulic disc brakes, and a high/low switch next to the state of charge meter. Kodiak golf carts also come with an Eco lithium battery, a 48 volt 105AH lithium battery that is not only 80% lighter than a standard lead-acid battery system, but 30% lighter than other golf cart lithium batteries on the market.

Our Own Golf Cart Brands

America EV’s California Roadster, 39 Roadster, EV Wagon, EV Luxe, and Mokee are some of our own golf carts, assembled from the ground up and strictly quality controlled and inspected. All of our carts can also be customized with non-standard paint, and our Roadsters also have the option of the woody paint job or colored hood flames cascading down the hood to the front fenders, one of the most popular customizations. America EV carts reach a maximum speed of 24mph, and come with all safety features needed to be registered as LSVs. Like the Kodiak golf cart, the America EV carts are street ready – not yet registered until the buyer decides.

We recently launched our newest website – Roadster Golf Cart, where you can find specifications and purchase and contact information on how you can get a Roadster as well. Street Legal Cart Rental | Recommended and Legal Streets in Fort Lauderdale to Drive a Golf Cart

A street legal golf cart, referred to as a low speed vehicle (LSV), can reach a maximum speed of 24mph, meaning it is allowed to be driven on roads with a posted speed limit of 35mph or less. There are several roads in Fort Lauderdale – where one of our store locations is – that are 35mph or less, and many that increase to 45mph, or are 35mph but just too crowded. If you’re coming to Fort Lauderdale for vacation and are interested in a street legal cart rental, especially if you’re from out of state, this guide is here to give recommendations for the safest, most effective, and street legal roads to drive a golf cart.

If you’re in any other south Florida city and are interested in renting a golf cart with us, use our rental application for a quote! We deliver and pick up!

street legal cart rental, fort lauderdale golf cart rentalLas Olas Boulevard: Allowed (and highly recommended!)

Las Olas Boulevard is one of Fort Lauderdale’s most popular areas, filled with all kinds of shops, galleries, restaurants, and more. You’ll see quite a few golf carts here as well, since the speed limit in the main area goes between 25mph and 30mph, depending on where you are, and once across the drawbridge over the Middle River, it goes up to 35mph.

State Road A1A: Allowed

Also called 17th Street, State Road A1A goes all the way up the coast right next to the beach, and most areas are 30mph. You can park a street legal cart rental just like a car, and the parallel parking at the beach is made easier by the golf cart’s smaller size. You can travel quite the distance with a golf cart along the beach road – approximately 20 to 25 miles on a single charge. When your golf cart starts getting down to around 50% charged, you’ll want to take it back to your home or hotel and charge it, since the lower it gets, the longer it takes to fully recharge. We recommend charging it overnight.

7th Avenue/Avenue of the Arts: Allowed

street legal cart rental, fort lauderdale golf cart rentalRight off 7th Avenue and Broward Boulevard is where our Fort Lauderdale location is – you can find our address and other contact information here. This takes you right through the heart and soul of the city, and past various murals and street art from local artists. You can also find a lot of car repair shops in the more industrial area of 7th Avenue. Check out restaurants such as Miami Grill, and come down 1st street (our street) to eat at Vegan Junkie or Orchestrated Minds Brewing. Enjoy the murals on our store’s building and on nearby businesses as well.

Additional roads for a street legal cart rental:

  • Andrews Avenue
  • Bayview Drive
  • State Road 811/3rd Avenue (Turns into 4th Avenue/Wilton Drive once north of Sunrise Boulevard)

street legal cart rental, fort lauderdale golf cart rentalBroward Boulevard: Not Recommended

Technically, a golf cart is allowed to be driven on Broward Boulevard, as it is a 35mph road, but it’s also a very crowded road. Lanes merge and split in various areas, and the road also crosses US Highway 1 (US-1), where the speed limit is 45mph. Cars speeding through this area, as well as through different parts of Broward Boulevard, combined with the suddenly merging lanes, can be difficult to navigate for even the locals.

Recommendation: Try taking 6th street, Sistrunk Boulevard, instead. If you’re heading to the beach, take 4th or 6th street east to 3rd Avenue, then go south until you can turn left onto Las Olas Boulevard.

Sunrise Boulevard: Not Recommended

Some parts of Sunrise Boulevard are 35mph, but there are also some areas that increase to 40mph. There’s also an area where it splits into US-1, and this can be confusing or difficult to navigate for those unfamiliar with the area. As a road that goes through industrial areas, Sunrise Boulevard is surrounded by car shops, meaning that there could be cars parked in the road outside of shops. It is also just a big, crowded main road, with a lot of cars, many of them speeding.

Recommendation: If you’re going east of US-1, towards the beach, take Las Olas Boulevard. If you’re going west of US-1, use Sistrunk Boulevard (6th street).

Oakland Park Boulevard: Not Recommended

Oakland Park Boulevard is another crowded road, especially as it gets close to US-1. There are a lot of big stores and plazas along the way, as well as speeding cars. It is a 35mph road, but it’s not recommended due to the many lanes and fast crossroads.

Recommendation: Take 26th street instead – however, remember that there is no beach access from there. If you’re trying to get to the beach, it’s best to take Las Olas Boulevard to State Road A1A, as A1A will take you right along the side of the beach.

street legal cart rental, fort lauderdale golf cart rentalUS-1: Not Allowed

US Highway 1, or Federal Highway, is 45mph in most areas. Golf carts are not allowed on US-1. Streets close to US-1 or roads that cross over US-1 can be used instead.

Recommendation: State Road 811/3rd Avenue (turns into 4th Avenue later). Make sure to turn onto a different street before Dixie Highway, as this is another road that is not 35mph. Andrews Avenue and State Road A1A also work, even though they aren’t as close to US-1 as 3rd Avenue.

Powerline Road: Not Allowed

As with US-1, most of Powerline Road, or 9th Avenue, is 45mph. As with US-1, nearby streets that are 35mph or less can be used instead, such as residential side streets.

Recommendation: If using main roads instead of residential, use Andrews Avenue for North-South and 26th Street for East-West, or any of the other recommended alternate streets.

Golf Cart Battery Storage | How to Prepare a Golf Cart Battery for Winter

As the weather begins to get colder and the golf carts begin to roll into storage, it’s important to know how to maintain your golf cart batteries for the winter season. Port Salerno Golf Cart provides a detailed guide on how to prepare a golf cart for long term storage; today we talk specifically about golf cart battery storage, especially in the winter. The key to maintaining the longevity of lead-acid batteries through the winter is proper storage.

The process of preparing for golf cart battery storage is similar in both the summer and winter seasons, but one thing that remains constant is the importance of fully charging your battery before putting the golf cart into long-term storage. The reason for this is because leaving them discharged in cold weather can actually cause the electrolyte inside to freeze and therefore expand, which could potentially crack the battery case and cause a leak or battery failure. When a battery is not charged, its freezing point is about 20 degrees Fahrenheit, while a fully charged battery has a much lower freezing point: approximately -80 degrees Fahrenheit.

If the weather is not too severe and you’re not putting your golf cart into long-term storage, there are still procedures to follow for using your golf cart in colder temperatures. Cold weather causes the batteries to charge slower, and reduces the battery’s capacity. In this case, it’s extra important to make sure the battery is fully charged before driving the golf cart – a common mistake made is plugging in the battery and assuming it is fully charged, not knowing that charging slows in colder weather, and therefore draining the battery further with every drive. In order to check the charge of your batteries in cold weather, you’ll want to take hydrometer readings of your battery’s cells and use the correction factor of subtracting 0.004 (four points) from your reading for every 10 degrees below 80 degrees Fahrenheit (the optimum temperature to take a hydrometer reading). A fully charged golf cart battery should have a hydrometer reading of approximately 1.270. For example, if the outside temperature is 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and your hydrometer reading returns as 1.200, you’ll want to subtract 0.12 from this reading; your correct reading would therefore be 1.188, which means the battery is less than 50 percent charged. It’s extra important to fully recharge the battery before driving or putting the golf cart into storage, as a golf cart that drops below 50 percent charged can be more difficult to fully recharge.

Another tip we recommend for driving a golf cart in colder weather is using one of our golf cart enclosures – available for purchase on our parts website!

Golf Cart Battery for Sale | Port Salerno Golf Cart Battery | New and Used Golf Cart Batteries

Port Salerno Golf Cart offers many accessories along with golf cart rentals and sales, and today we feature a selection of some of the various types of golf cart battery that we offer. These are the standard lead-acid batteries, found in almost every golf cart, in a system of 6 or 8 batteries all connected together. The most common type of golf cart battery is Trojan, which we sell as 6 volt, 8 volt, and 12 volt. We also carry Crown, Megavolt, Powertron, and several different brands – all can be seen in the pictures below. We can also assist with purchasing the right battery, and installing as well.

Since lead-acid batteries are the standard golf cart battery, they are relatively cheap to produce and purchase, and actually have the lowest cost per unit capacity for rechargeable cells. As with any other batteries, if the golf cart is not run for a while, the lead-acid battery will slowly lose charge, but it only does so at a rate of about 3% a month. Because of this, a lead-acid battery can theoretically be stored for up to 12 months without needing to be recharged. Generally, you’ll want to recharge your golf cart when the charge drops to about 50%. The lower the charge, the longer it takes for the battery to recharge. However, if the charge drops too low, the battery won’t be able to be recharged by a regular charger, and will need to be connected to a super charger, another service we offer when a golf cart battery has been drained too low.

Lead-acid batteries are quite durable and resilient, able to be recharged about 300-500 times before needing to be replaced. As stated before, they are relatively affordable, since they are simple to produce and cheap to manufacture. They are very tolerant to overcharging, as the golf cart charger will shut off as soon as the battery charge has been refilled – even though the charger is still plugged in, the batteries will be fully charged and therefore not use excess energy. They can be used for a variety of other applications besides golf carts, and has a high current capacity and comes in a wide range of sizes and specifications. To find the voltage of a battery, count the number of holes in the top (used for waterfilling) and multiply it by 2. 6 volt batteries have 3 holes, 8 volt batteries have 4, and 12 volt batteries have 6.

golf cart battery for sale, port salerno golf cart battery, new and used golf cart batteries

We have more on golf cart batteries and maintenance on our golf cart battery page, where you can also access our contact information if you have any additional questions.

Notes to keep in mind:

Generally, lead-acid golf cart batteries are not any more difficult to maintain than any other vehicle battery – however, there are some precautions to keep in mind. When first plugging in your golf cart, you’ll want to lift up the seat that the batteries are under – generally, in four passenger carts, the batteries are under the front seats, while in six passenger carts, they’re under the middle row of seats. When the battery charger first comes on, the batteries may give off a vapor that comes from the chemicals inside the batteries. It can be extremely dangerous if these fumes build up under the seat, so it’s very important to ventilate the batteries when the charger turns on. Lead-acid batteries also need to be cleaned of the acid deposits that build up around the terminals, and regularly refilled with water – we actually sell a waterfilling kit that you can put on a battery to create a single point from which to fill the batteries. It makes refilling them a lot easier! This product, along with several other golf cart accessories, are available in our Advanced EV golf cart shop.

The Benefits of Switching to a Lithium Battery

Port Salerno Golf Cart is in the business of selling lithium golf cart batteries, most notably Roy Pow lithium batteries. With our turn-key replacement system, anyone can easily convert their golf cart from the standard lead-acid batteries to lithium batteries in less than an hour. Switching to lithium batteries comes with several benefits, and can take you and your golf cart to distances far beyond where it could go before, and then further.

the benefits of switching to a lithium battery

Why choose lithium?

Lithium batteries are slowly beginning to enter the mainstream world of golf carts – they are universal and can be installed in any golf cart. At Port Salerno Golf Cart, not only do we offer Roy Pow lithium batteries, but for a nominal fee, we can install it and easily convert a lead-acid battery system in less than an hour. Roy Pow batteries also come with a 5-year warranty.

When buying a lithium battery, the price is higher than a regular lead-acid battery, but the benefits far outweigh the cost. For one, once that lithium battery is installed, it won’t need to be replaced for up to 10 years – up to 70% in expenditures can be saved over a 5 year period, since it won’t need to be continuously replaced like a lead-acid battery. Roy Pow lithium batteries have a quick charge time of approximately 2.5 hours, and can be rapidly charged to about 80% in only an hour. It takes up to five hours to charge the battery completely, and once fully charged, it will hold that charge for about 8 months when not in use. – they also have a life cycle of up to 3,500 charge cycles. The distance a golf cart can travel depends on the power level of the lithium battery, measured in amp hours (A/H):

56 A/H: 30-35 miles per charge.

105 A/H: 60-65 miles per charge.

160 A/H: 95-100 miles per charge.

Lithium batteries are also much better for the environment, since they aren’t made with harmful chemicals like lead-acid batteries and give off no dangerous fumes. Since they aren’t filled with water either, they don’t need to be maintained like lead-acid batteries, and are considered maintenance free. Roy Pow lithium batteries are much lighter as well – since multiple lead-acid batteries are used to power a cart, the weight increases vastly, but only one lithium battery is needed, and depending on the level of power, can weigh less than 100 pounds. This puts less stress on the golf cart, and allows it to carry more weight and reach higher speeds with less effort. A Roy Pow lithium battery also has multiple built-in safety measures, such as fire detection systems, water spray systems, flammable volatile monitoring and alarms, battery box warnings and protections, battery operating situation monitoring, and anti-collision, along with many other active safety systems. They have systems that prevent them from overcharging, over discharging, short-circuiting, overheating, and even have anti-theft systems and remote GPS tracking, with the ability to check the battery status remotely in real time.

the benefits of switching to a lithium battery

To power a golf cart, 6 or 8 lead-acid batteries are needed. Only one lithium battery is needed to power this whole cart.

Why switch from lead-acid batteries?

Lead-acid batteries are the standard in almost every golf cart, most of the time being flooded lead-acid. These batteries need to be regularly filled with water, and also contain multiple chemicals and gases, including sulfuric acid and lead compounds. Not only are these batteries filled with a multitude of harmful chemicals, they have a possibility of giving off potentially dangerous fumes when plugged in to charge, and can even explode if something goes wrong during charging. The water inside also makes them very heavy, and with 6 or 8 in a golf cart, a lead-acid battery system can add over 300 pounds of weight to a golf cart. When plugging in a golf cart with lead-acid batteries, it’s very important to remember to lift up the seat to ventilate the fumes that may come off the battery, as buildup under the seat can be extremely dangerous. Cart owners with lead-acid battery carts must regularly perform maintenance on them, like waterfilling and terminal tightening, as well as cleaning potentially harmful acid deposits. Lead-acid batteries will also only last a few years at most, with a life cycle of about 500 charges. They need to be charged every day as well, and can take about 12 hours to fully charge. In short, lead-acid batteries do have their benefits and are easy to find, but don’t last long, and need to be replaced often – replacing them also comes with the cost of having them installed.

How to Prepare Your Golf Cart for Long-Term Self-Storage

If you would prefer to store your golf cart on your own property rather than in a storage facility, there are several important steps to take to ensure that your golf cart stays in top condition during the off-season or time it’s not in use. Even when storing your golf cart for long periods of time, there is more to it than simply tucking the cart away in a shed for months at a time. Golf carts still require periodic maintenance when not in use, but following the right guidelines to storing your golf cart will keep it preserved and ready for when it’s time to be brought out again.

Battery Preparation

When preparing your golf cart for storage, you’ll want to first perform some basic battery maintenance. Begin by disconnecting battery cables, and clean any corrosion from the cables and battery by using a mix of baking soda and warm water (or white vinegar and water) – baking soda neutralizes acid corrosion. Fully charge the battery, as batteries will naturally self-discharge when not in use. When disconnecting the battery charger, unplug it from the AC outlet before unplugging it from the cart. Using only distilled water, refill the batteries, making sure the cart has been fully charged. Do not refill the batteries before fully charging your cart, as this can lead to electrolyte overflow.

Turn the key switch off to turn off everything on the cart, and depending on your cart, you’ll have either a Run/Tow switch or a Run/Maintenance switch. Flip this switch to “tow” or “maintenance” in order to reduce battery discharge and fire risks. Finally, disconnect the main positive and negative connections – it’s recommended to tape the connections together in order to not forget where they go.

You’ll want to periodically check in on your charge and water levels – especially in warmer climates, the water levels can slowly decrease due to evaporation, and batteries will self-discharge when left unused for extended periods of time. It’s recommended to return to your cart every 2-4 weeks and check these levels – fully recharge and refill the batteries as needed.

Tire Checks

Before putting the golf cart in storage, you’ll want to inflate your tires as high as possible without over inflating them. When the cart is stationary for long periods of time, the tires naturally deflate from the weight of the cart, possibly causing damage to the tires like flat spots. When checking in on the cart as recommended, inflate the tires every two weeks and move the cart slightly, applying pressure to a different part of the tire.

Another option is storing the golf cart off the ground – raise the cart up onto jack stands, which will take pressure off the tires and ensure that no flat spots will form.

General Cleaning

Even in the best storage, moisture will still be produced. Inspect your cart to make sure there are no rust spots, and if there are, cover them with fresh paint. Rust spots can increase from moisture in the air if left untreated, and any other markings will also worsen with extreme temperatures. Be sure to remove any crumbs that may be on the seats, as they can grow and harbor bacteria in the time the cart is stored, and make sure to clean the flooring and upholstery to prevent any possible molding. Remove any rugs or carpets, cut and polish any scratches, and replace spark plugs if needed. Other things to clean include any dirt or grime, bird or other animal droppings, mirrors, fuel, air, and oil filters, and cables and connectors.

Storage

An important tip to remember is to leave the cart in neutral when storing it, and if storing it on the ground, keep it on a level surface and surround the wheels with bricks or other heavy objects to keep it from rolling. Do not keep the parking brake engaged – this can damage the cart.

Most golf carts will fit in a 10×10 enclosed space – placing the golf cart inside is critical and will prevent any damage that could be caused by harsh weather and below freezing or exceedingly high temperatures. A garage is a good option, although it can take up space that may be needed for cars, so storing it in a small shed is another ideal choice.

Even though the cart is inside, always use a protective cover to keep dust and dirt off the cart. If you don’t have a cover specifically for golf carts, a large canvas cloth will suffice – the most important thing is simply making sure the cart is covered.

Even when not in use, your golf cart still needs periodic maintenance, so it’s important to follow these steps to ensure that your golf cart is sufficiently prepared for storage and regularly checked in on, so when it comes time to use it again, it’ll still be in top condition.
